Scenario Contest |
|
EvoCommand is an emerging fan-site dedicated to the game of Battlefield Evolution. In support of the game, we are currently looking for scenarios which simulate conflicts and events in setting of the game system. If you have an idea for a cool scenario, this is your chance to take your shot at winning free minis!
SCENARIO FORMAT
Scenario submissions should mirror the format currently used in already published scenarios by Mongoose Publishing (See the following for examples: Signs and Portents - Issue 42 and the Advanced Rulebook preview #2
- BACKGROUND SITUATION (250 words or less) – This section covers the overall scope of the scenario, the events leading up to it and the implications of the events covered by the scenario. The events covered should fit the BF:Evo setting/timeline.
- ATTACKER BRIEFING (250 words or less) – Covers any special rules for deployment or force setup related to the attackers.
- DEFENDER BRIEFING (250 words or less) – Covers any special rules for deployment or force setup related to the defenders.
- SETUP (250 words or less) – Covers any items related to the terrain or board setup. A cutesy graphic showing the deployment zones is NOT required (though it won’t hurt.
)
- SPECIAL RULES explain what special rules apply to the scenario. Keep in mind that these type items lie outside the standard rules and may be up for more intense critique from the contest judges.
- SCENARIO LENGTH (optional) – If this is a timed event or has a limited # of rounds specify that here.
- POINTS MATCH – if forces are not explicitly defined in the Attacker/Defender briefing sections include the point limits for the teams here.
- VICTORY CONDITIONS – List any special conditions for victory. Remember to clearly indicate the victory conditions if they differ between the opponents. If none are given it will be assumed that the shatter point rules are in effect.
CONTEST RULES
Please use the following guidelines when submitting a BF:Evo scenario:
- The contest begins 15 March 2007 and runs through 15 April 2007 at midnight CST (GMT-6)
- Submissions should be in plain text, html, pdf or MS-Word format.
- Email all submissions to admin@evocommand.com with a subject line of "SCENARIO CONTEST - [insert your user name]"
- Limit of 2 scenario submissions per member. Any submissions after the first 2 will be rejected.
- Entries are designed to be single scenarios. However, entries for mini campaigns are allowed, but the completed entry may not include more than 5 successive mini scenarios.
- It should not need to be said, but entries must be your own and not copies or stolen from any other source. Any proven cases of plagiarism will result in disqualification and possible suspension from the site.
- Scenario submissions may not have been previously published, on the internet or by other means.
- Although not required, playtesting the scenario in a private setting is encouraged and may the only form of “publication”.
- Submissions must use only canon units released by Mongoose Publishing. Custom units of any kind are disallowed.
- By submitting your scenario to EvoCommand.com, win or lose, you grant us rights to publish your scenario on the site for public access. Full credit will be given to all submitting authors.
- If for some reason less than 4 total entries are received the contest will be extended 14 days. If the minimum # of entries is still not received the contest will be cancelled.
JUDGING
- Judging will be conducted by a panel of three judges.
- Judges may not enter the contest.
- Scenarios will be rated on the following criteria:
- Creativity – is the idea fresh and new or the same old cliché game?
- Game Balance – is the scenario fair to all players or does it have unbalanced content. Do all forces have a reasonable chance to meet their victory conditions? Is the time/turn limit specified reasonable?
- Clarity and accuracy of content – Does the content make sense and is it free of typos and grammar mistakes?
Failure to comply with the above guidelines may result in the disqualification of the scenario submission.
PRIZES
First prize in this contest will be a free mini of your choice from the WAVE 1 or WAVE 2 product releases for the game. In the event that stock shortages for the product desired exist the prize will be awarded as soon as possible.
Additionally, the contest winner will receive a Scenario contest winner ribbon:
All participants will receive ribbons:
More information regarding ribbons can be found here

Since it's been asked...
We aren't going to count word for word to enforce the 250 word limit, its more of a hard fast guideline. If you want to go over it a little, that's fine. It's more of a way to keep people from submitting field manuals. I've run contests for other games and have had people turn in 20 pg+ documents that are like mini rule books or 30 mission campaigns.

Who will be... the judges three?
I am willing to judge, but equally willing to submit a scenario. I just didn't want to work on one this go-around if I am elected one of the judges.

Now that is a cool idea. Heck, even if they only do half a dozen it would be cool. All depends on how many people enter I suppose.

The winner will be posted and added to the scenarios section of our main site. Any that are close runners up will be added as well. Beyond that, I'm going to leave it to the submitters to do it. I'm not in a hurry to do that much work on my own.

Sounds fair. I am looking forward to see what everyone else has done.
Still no suggestions on good applications to use from drawing up a diagram of the battlefield?

I have a question on the contest rules. Is it permitted to incorporate a rules mechanic inspired by another game system as long as proper attribution of the source of the rules mechanic is provided?

I'd prefer it be canon rules as this is our first contest and I'd like to avoid arguments. If it's a minor change, maybe, but anything large would probably be best if it were left out.

No problem then and I appreciate the clarification.
I'll post the scenario separately on this forum and come up with a second scenario specifically to submit to the contest.
