PLA Command Squad and NORINCO FAV Previews |
|
Price: $29.95
Distributor on sale date: 16th April 2007
The Command Squad is a strong component for any PLA force, with its officer keeping a careful eye on the battlefield, formulating tactics on the fly. His presence can mean the defeat for an enemy with a more ragged command structure, and a Command Squad as a whole acts as a useful force multiplier.
The NORINCO FAV grants the PLA a fast-moving strike capability, for it can cover rough ground quickly and yet packs enough firepower to deal with both light vehicles and aircraft. The combination of both MG and 23mm cannon gives this light vehicle a strong punch that can defeat other light vehicles or root infantry out of cover as desired.
This box set contains one PLA Command Squad and one FAV

Looking pretty cool for the PLA, which will have the nicest spread of choices come wave 3, what w/ troops, tank, APC and now, HQ and fast attack. I'm kinda glad I picked 'em.

That things is gonna be a nasty flanking threat, toss in a squad with AT launchers and it's a multi-purpous hit and run unit.

I still think that the vehicles need more details....and the helmets these guys are wearing look like the straw hats the VC used to wear.

After reading the Mexico battle report, I think that the command squad is going to be a great addition to the army. An extra action to a unit? Heck yeah!
Not sure about the FAV though. It looks like it will have its uses but it also looks very fragile. At least the Shadows look like they give the crew some kind of protection.

Matt w/Mongoose has said they are adding "bull bars" to the front of the jeep to give a little tougher look.

Here's hoping that won't set the release date back a few months.

It's not the jeep that needs to really look tougher. It is the completely exposed crew with no armor to speak of that concerns me.

Infantry squads can go riding around in an IFV but the command is in a jeep?
I wonder if there will be an option for the command (or a part of it) to attach to a squad or at least ride in a protected vehicle?
Then again, I'm inclined to think both options should be unapealing when in range of the enemy. I forsee the jeep being kept behind/within blocking terrain during the game for the most part.

I'm pretty sure this one is going to work like the EFTF warrior where the command unit is sold with another for cheaper packaging.

That is what I am thinking as well. I wonder if they are going to do something with the Warrior and FAV seperate so that you don't have to buy a bunch of command units that you can't use?

Commanders for grunts would be a great idea in my book.
As for the design, I have to agree that the real thing does look better, and hey...
It's great for family outings too!
